Annotated Ref

JOURNALISM 2 – ANNOTATED REFERENCES ASSIGNMENT

Create a list of three college-level references that you plan to use for your Research Paper, and add a brief annotation (fancy word for note) for each item. The annotation should two or three sentences in which you summarize the source and explain briefly how it fits in with your topic/thesis. You do not have to use these exact sources in your paper. You can add more sources and you can replace sources that don’t fit in once you start to organize your thoughts and write.
An APA-style annotated reference to a book might look like this. Note that items in an APA-style References list are in alphabetic order by last name and are formatted as hanging indent (first line sticks out). Go to format/paragraph to create a hanging indent.
For instructions on APA References styles, google Diana Hacker APA. Do not trust “Cite” information from databases.

EXAMPLE - ARTICLE:
Ahmed, S., & Wahab, J. A. (2014). Animation and socialization process: Gender role portrayal on Cartoon Network. Asian Social Science, 10(3), 44-53. Retrieved from http://search.proquest.com/docview/1503675464?accountid=38235. The findings of the study reveal that the worldwide popular animated cartoon channel for children portrays the male and female characters in a biased and stereotypical way, which to a certain extent play an important role in socialization process for shaping and constructing ideas about male and female's position and characteristics in society.  I will use the study’s findings to illustrate specific gender stereotypes in children’s cartoons.
Ehrenreich, B. (2001). Nickel and dimed: On (not) getting by in America. New York: Henry Holt and Company. I In this book of nonfiction based on the journalist's experiential research, Ehrenreich, a journalist, takes jobs as a waitress, a maid in a cleaning service, and a Wal-Mart sales employee to ascertain whether it is possible to live on minimum wate. The author is forthcoming about her unorthodox research methods and supplements her experiences with scholarly research on her places of employment, the economy, and the rising cost of living in America. I will use her description of working as a waitress to contrast with depictions of waitresses on TV shows from the 1950s to the 2000s.
